Highland Park news
Bearing in mind whisky is the single most wonderful thing in the world; I am often surprised how little media coverage it receives. Have a Sunday newspaper delivered to your house and you’ll soon drown in supplements devoted to the trivia that dominates everyday life – motoring, sport, travel, work, television...
Where, I ask you, is the single malt Scotch whisky section? Those of us with a thirst for whisky knowledge have to seek it elsewhere. Recently I’ve shared my enthusiasm for Whisky Magazine, the Scotchblog and others with you. Now it is time for Malt Advocate magazine.
Published quarterly, Malt Advocate is the USA’s leading whisky magazine and covers all of the world’s finest whiskies including Scotch (single malt and blends), Irish whiskey, bourbon, American, Japanese and Canadian whisky. It mixes whisky features, columns, product reviews and up-to-date whisky news. Malt Advocate’s contributors include whisky authorities such as Michael Jackson and Gary Regan as well as the magazine’s editor and publisher - John Hansell, a vastly experienced whisky writer.
Malt Advocate is open and honest with its opinions and has always been very positive about the whiskies emanating from Highland Park. For example, our 30-year-old was the magazine’s Import Whisky of the Year in 2005. As John said; “An exemplary Highland Park… Whiskies like this one remind me why I fell in love with whisky in the first place.” – who are we to argue.
Malt Advocate also organises an excellent series of informal whisky tasting events in New York, Chicago and San Francisco called WhiskyFest – the next one of these will be in San Francisco on October 23rd followed by New York on the 30th October – they are great fun and well attended. Bruichladdich Links – Carnoustie
Bruichladdich Links is a series of limited edition bottlings chosen by whisky guru Jim McEwan, celebrating Scotland’s two principle passions: Golf and Whisky.
A links course is natural, un-manicured, challenging where the weather and coastal location exert a strong influence. These are strong associations with Bruichladdich
The latest in the Bruichladdich Links series features the Carnoustie links course,
home of the 2007 British Open championship played on a public links course.
Located 6 miles east of Dundee at the mouth of the Firth of Tay, golf has been played over Carnoustie’s North Sea coast links since 1527
The 6th in the Bruichladdich Links series features Graeme Baxter’s panoramic painting of the par 4 15th hole, where the infamous Barry Burn flows.
Carnoustie’s final three holes are recognized as golf’s toughest finishing stretch as Jean Van de Velde found out when he discovering the burn cost him the 1999 championship.
Matured for 14years in Quercus Alba oak Bourbon casks we gave it an additional cask evolution in exquisite French Allier oak from possible the finest chateau in the world.
To date, all the Links series have been bottled deliberately at 14 years providing an interesting comparison of cask types and ACE influences.
Naturally bottled on Islay with out chill-filtration, colouring-free, and reduced from cask to bottling strength with the legendary Islay spring water.
This bottling is limited to a worldwide release of 12,000 numbered bottles. Previous releases are St. Andrews, Augusta, Turnberry, Troon, and Hoylake.

The K Club is considered to be Ireland’s finest course, located outside the village of Straffan in Kildare, 15 miles south west of Dublin.
Designed by Arnold Palmer, the par 5, 16th hole is featured in a painting by leading golf course artist Graeme Baxter.
The whisky was matured for 14 years in Quercus Alba Bourbon casks with additional cask evolution (ACE) in Guigal's French casks from Cotes Rotie and Hermitage.
“To date, all the Links series have been bottled deliberately at the same age to provide an intriguing comparison of the various ACE influences - cask types and oak origins.”
The whisky is naturally bottled on Islay with out chill-filtration, colouring-free, and reduced from cask to bottling strength of 46% with the legendary Islay spring water.
This bottling is limited to a worldwide release of 12,000 numbered bottles. Previous releases are St. Andrews, Augusta, Turnberry, Troon, Hoylake and Carnoustie.

Whisky tasting and seminar
Liebe Whiskyfreunde
Wie Sie sicher schon bemerkt haben, gibt es jährlich unzählige Anlässe wie Whisky-Seminare und Whisky-Dinner.
Ich selber, leidenschaftlicher Whisky-Kenner, habe mir etliche solcher Anlässe zu Gemüte geführt und feststellen müssen, dass in erster Linie fast ausschliesslich ein Verkaufsgedanke von Seiten des Organisators im Vordergrund stand und nicht unbedingt die Absicht, dem Konsumenten etwas Neues zu bieten.
Wir möchten dies gerne ändern. Dazu bestehen bereits Ideen von gezielten Themen-Degustationen oder Themen-Seminaren, alle zum Thema Whisky, im Raume Bern und Umgebng. Dazu möchten wir auch namhafte Referenten aus dem Ausland einladen.
Um diese Ideen umsetzen zu können, braucht es dazu eine Interessengemeinschaft, wir brauchen also Ihre Unterstützung!
Falls Sie sich von dieser Idee angesprochen fühlen, oder in Ihrem Bekanntenkreis jemanden kennen, der sich für diese Idee begeistern liesse, dann teilen Sie uns dies doch kurz in einem Mail unter info@stillman.ch mit. Dazu benötigen wir Ihren vollständigen Namen und den Vermerk "interessiert" oder "nicht interessiert".

Liebe Freunde
Wie bereits angekündigt wird am kommenden Samstag, 16. Juni, der neue Shop des Angels Share so richtig eröffnet!
Der neue Shop ist grösser und übersichtlicher geworden und lädt auch zum Plauschen, Fachsimpeln und Geniessen ein.
Nicht nur das Sortiment an Whiskys wurde erweitert, nein, auch das Cigarren-Angebot wurde stark ausgebaut.
Der neue Shop des Angels Share ist so noch mehr zu einem Treffpunkt für Geniesser geworden.
Was läuft so an diesem Tag?
Am Morgen um 9 Uhr werden der Shop und das Restaurant geöffnet.
Weit über 100 Whisky- und Whiskey-Abfüllungen stehen im Restaurant zur Degustation bereit. Gegen einen dem Alter und Ruf des betreffenden Whisk(e)ys angepassten (niedrigen) Unkostenbeitrag kann nach Herzenslust getastet (versucht) und mit Kollegen und anderen Whisk(e)y-Enthusiasten gefachsimpelt werden. Es ist ja bekannt: Degustationen und Ausschank von Spirituosen dürfen nach Gesetz nur gegen Bezahlung und nur an über 18jährige erfolgen (Alkoholgesetzgebung).
Im Shop werden an diesem Tag ein paar ausgewählte Whisky-Abfüllungen zu speziell günstigen Preisen zu haben sein. Dazu gibt es auf das ganze Sortiment von James MacArthur, dem von uns in der Schweiz exklusiv vertretenen unabhängigen Abfüller, am Eröffnungstag 10 Prozent Rabatt. (Angebote gelten nur im Laden, nicht im Internet).
Im Laufe des Vor- und Nachmittags werden wir von Zeit zu Zeit mit Dudelsack-Klängen verwöhnt werden. Bei schönem Wetter wird auf dem Platz vor dem Shop und Restaurant aufgespielt, bei schlechtem Wetter im Restaurant – wir rechnen natürlich fest mit schönem Wetter.
Höhepunkte des Tages werden aber die Auftritte von Robin Laing – dem berühmtesten schottischen Barden nach Robert Burns . . . – sein.
Er wird so ungefähr um 11 Uhr am Vormittag und zirka um 14 und 16.15 am Nachmittag im Restaurant seine Auftritte haben.
Wir freuen uns auch, die bis jetzt teuerste und älteste Abfüllung der Kult-Destillerie Ardbeg, den
Ardbeg 1965, The Envy of the Islay, 40 Jahre
im Original in seiner extrem aufwändigen Erscheinung präsentieren zu können! Diese Abfüllung kann aber weder gekauft noch degustiert werden . . .
Das ganze Angels Share ist mit in die Eröffnung mit einbezogen! Das Restaurant (beim Sitzen geniesst sich's besser) richtet sich (auch mit schottischen Spezialitäten) auf Euren Besuch ein.
Es wird sicher ein runder Tag mit vielen Gelegenheiten, andere Freunde von Whisk(e)ys und Cigars zu treffen, zu diskutieren und zu geniessen.
Für genügend Parkplätze vor, neben und hinter dem Haus ist gesorgt. Auch unsere Nachbarn stellen uns Parkplätze zur Verfügung. Und die öffentlichen Verkehrsmittel (die Regionalbahn in diesem Fall) bringt Euch ab dem Bahnhof Aarau bis zur Haltestelle Uerkebrücke auf 300 m in unsere Nähe!

Having just returned from the beautiful isle where the sun shone brightly on both the Fells Race and Whisky Festival alike, I'm taking a moment to write and tell you that our website has been updated and includes lots of recent goings on. Author Will Self has been out staying at the lodge penning his new opus, we've been out promoting our fine spirit in New York City and been busy helping our friends across in Crinan organise the first classic yacht festival of its type that's coming to Jura next month. There's a few special new whiskies available too that are worth a look.

Das www.whisky-news.com läufte Forum nicht so gut. Es hat ein paar Probleme gegeben und war mit der Struktur nicht ganz zufrieden. Deshalb habe ich ein Blog gemacht.

The frequentiation of www.whisky-news.com was low, sometimes problematic and didn't fully corresponded to my wishes, I decided to create a blog instead, where comments and feedback are easier to implement.
Hope it will work better than the previous forum!

Das www.whisky-news.com läufte Forum nicht so gut. Es hat ein paar Probleme gegeben und war mit der Struktur nicht ganz zufrieden. Deshalb habe ich ein Blog gemacht.
